January 2009

On January 7, 2009, the Boeing Stratocruisers met at Alfy's pizza in Silver Lake for their monthly meeting.

Promptly, at 5:00 P.M., our outgoing president Joanne Luster called the meeting to order with her "seeing eye" gavel  She introduced Mike Burkes, our new president, and gave him the "seeing eye" gavel with which to conduct the meeting and also presented him with the standard installation gift (ball and chain, handcuffs and file) for his two-year term.

Mark Thomson did the treasurer's report.

Bonnie Smith read the November, 2008 minutes as we did not have a meeting in December.  Instead, we had a great Christmas party at O'Donnell's restaurant with dinner, lots of conversations, gift exchange with "Santa" and some great magic by Shawn O'Donnell, owner of the restaurant.  He even amazed Sally Joy with his talents.  We all had a good time.  Mike Ross made a motion to accept the reading of the minutes to stand as read.

It's January--dues are due.  We have had 17 members renew their membership to date.

President Mike Burkes gave a little introduction of what our club is about then introduced our newest members, Larry and Dianne Robinson, from Renton.  They used to belong to Stratocruiser's South but joined our club when Stratocruiser'e South disbanded.  Welcome to our club, Larry and Dianne.  Thanks for driving so far to be with us.

Our July car show during Kla-Ha-Yah Days in Snohomish is the big thing we do each year.  We do the registration, park the cars, give out trophies, play the music during the show and sell tee-shirts.  The town gives us 100 tee-shirts to sell as our only fund raiser of the year.  With this money we support the charities we are connected with--Battered women, Lynnwood food bank and Everett Christmas House.  These charities help people in need here in Snohomish county.

Mike Burkes also brought up the fact that the city of Edmonds will not be sponsoring their car show "Hot Autumn Nights" held the first weekend after Labor Day.  Does the club want to take on this responsibility?  Think about it and we will discuss this at our next meeting which is February 4th.

Mike Ross mentioned the first swap meet in Puyallup is February 8th.  It will be a Corvette and high-performance meet.  He will have flyers for all interested.  Those interested can meet at K-Mart on Evergreen Way in south Everett to car pool to the meet.

Mike Burkes drew out the car-of-the-month and it was John Novak.  He will get to have pictures of his cars in our cabinet at the Boeing recreation center in Everett for all to see.

Mike Burkes would like a list of all members phone numbers and e-mails and all the various talents to use in our club.  We are a helpful club and help out each other when needed.

Karen Simons sold 50/50 tickets and Mike Smith was the lucky winner.  Thank you Karen, you do a very good job.

Club web site is www.stratocruisers.com.

We had 20 members present at our meeting.

Mike Burkes used the last minutes of the meeting letting everyone tell about their cars and what they are currently doing to them.

Meeting adjourned at 6:05 P.M.

Respectfully submitted,

Bonnie Smith,secretary
