March 2009

The Everett Stratocruisers met at Alfy's Silver Lake location for their monthly meeting on March 4th, 2009.

Meeting was called to order by president Mike Burks at 5:00P.M.

Minutes were read by secretary Bonnie Smith and Mike Ross made a motion that they stand as read.

The swap meets at Puyallup and Portland were attended by several of our members.

John Novak and Mike Burks attended a Kla-Ha-Yah Days meeting. The city of Snohomish is celebrating its 150-year anniversary this year and really wants to make a big event of the weekend of July 17th through July 20th.  Their schedule is on the web and they mention our car show.

Because of the anniversary we will be able to have extra speakers spread out for our music, announcements, etc., provided by the city.  A city volunteer will do all the speaker-related work and the city will pay for all the related supplies (around $1000 worth).  Even the Snohomish police will set up a car at our show for the spectators.  The State Patrol will have a display as well.  Ed Osgood and Mike Burks discussed ways to get more sponsors for the show (a booth costs $250 for a 10'x20' spot).  These vendors need to be of interest to car lovers (Bill Buckler inquired about a booth for his son who has a car restoration shop in Yakima).  We will have 90 trophies to give away.  In early April we will be sending out early registration forms-we have 450 that we have addresses for.

We received an e-mail invitation from Roxy at the Stratocruisers South club for a garage visit to Griot's Garage in Fife.  They will do a demo on detailing and usually provide refreshments.  The dates are 4/11 or 4/18.  They have 8 members signed up to go.

Mark Thomson brought some correspondence from the Christmas House.  They served 9,511 children from 3,302 Snohomish county families.  These families represented 21 Snohomish county cities.  It's good to know that we are helping out our own people with our time, donations and money.  A number of our members also helped set up and distribute the items for a happy Christmas.  It's also good to know the Christmas House screens the applicants and some are denied because they are trying to scam the House (like having no children, not living in Snohomish county, not the legal guardians or have too high of an income).

Trish, our vice-president, has had a couple of months of hard times, with Lee's surgeries and all.  A "thinking of you" card and prayers would be welcome.  Their address is: 13513 150th St. N.E., Arlington, Wa. 98223.

Update on our aluminum can progress: Prices on aluminum cans are real low right now so 40 lbs netted $5.20 at .13cents a pound.  However, our club made a donation of 35 lbs. to the Lynnwood food bank, thanks to George and Joanne Luster's contribution.  The John Lato family (John, Wendy and John 111) are regular helpers at the food bank.  Wednesdays are distribution days and some days they volunteer until 6:00P.M. so we won't see too much of them at meetings this year.

21 members were present at the meeting.

Car-of-the-month went to George Luster (lucky guy).  He has a 54-55 Studey.

Karen Simons sold 50-50 tickets and did a great job.  George Luster was the happy winner.

Meeting adjourned at 5:50P.M.

Respectfully submitted,
Bonnie Smith, secretary
